Visiting the Glossy Black Cockatoos on Kangaroo Island.

20120810-154840.jpgThis is a detail of one of my etchings showing the Cockies, feeding on the Sheoak cones. The location of the cockies on the Island is kept almost secret, to avoid disturbance to the colony. There have been new nesting boxes installed, to cheer the Cockies hearts. They need to compete for accommodation, with the Brush tailed possums. And of course , humans, clearing the forests.

20120811-134124.jpgHere is one of the very splendid nesting boxes in the tall river gums. I wished I could say I saw a flash of red feathers in the high leaf canopies, but I only saw ,and heard very loudly, the pink Galahs. And a large koala, it’s fur on full fluffiness for the cold night.
